Bluetooth Brings Mobile Audio Options Together
Think of Bluetooth as the gateway to what's possible in audio for your vehicle.
We usually think of Bluetooth as something allowing hands free cell phone use, but what if we just aren't thinking hard enough?
Scosche Industries is a company who specializes in audio products for automobiles and is self-described as, "A leading innovator of mobile electronic products and accessories for the aftermarket."
For Scosche this means the use of Bluetooth technology in something they call "BlueFusion". The idea for this company is to merge existing, but sometimes incompatible technologies for automobile users to enjoy. This company works to provide solutions for merging iPods, cell phones and existing sound systems into one happy collectively useful package.
Scosche insists recent automobiles can be restructured to allow the play of iPods and the reception of phone calls directly through the existing stereo. Scosche describes the process, "BlueFusion is easily installed without cutting or splicing factory wiring and can be done with a simple plug-and-play harness. Simply route the microphone where desired and use Scosche's installation instructions to connect the interface. The product automatically pairs with the cell phone when powered on. With Scosche's tuneSTREAM (# TZ4) stereo Bluetooth transmitter users can stream audio from their iPod or iPhone directly to any factory stereo connected to BlueFusion."
These kits are available for certain Honda, Toyota, GM, Ford, Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Lexis vehicles. A universal mp3 kit is also available for other models.
Apparently the sticking point for many stereo manufacturers was how to manage the control of so many features bundled into one primary unit. You guess it; the key tool was and is Bluetooth.
The idea of this technology dates back to the mid 1990's when several electronics manufacturers met in Sweden. Bluetooth was simply the codename used for the combined interest of the technology and somehow it stuck.
Bluetooth is essentially a short-range radio signal that can be used to send commands to various components. This is why Bluetooth has suddenly found such favor in automotive applications.
Apart from Scosche Industries Ford Motor Company is offering Sync while Honda has developed its own voice activated stereo system. These factory units may be exclusive at the present time, but it is expected that Kia and Hyundai will receive the Ford Sync system by 2010. The Honda system is also used in company owned Acura models.
It is not unreasonable to believe that this type of adaptable system will be available in most new vehicles by 2012. It is also not unreasonable to believe that the motivation behind the use will be widespread consumer demand.
Bluetooth is making it possible for a vehicle to be used as a mobile sound system with on demand music for beach parties and get-togethers with friends and families. The combination of mp3 delivered music through an iPod with the versatility of Bluetooth functionality is allowing for the most inspiration in personally chosen music along with the capability of instant cell phone connection, and as always the process remains hands free.
