Why do my elecrtonic devices lock up?
I've got a Motorola KRAZR K1m that sometimes won't let me get into the "bluetooth" screen unless I reboot the phone and it's just locked up on me at other random times (dialtone and weird screen and no button responds except powering off).
I've got a Toshiba cable modem that, after a while of running heavy file transfers, will just lock up and stop transmitting. Turning it off and back on again resolves for a little while (and I've verified my router is still working just fine, I don't need to turn that off ever).
I've got a Panasonic EZ47VK DVD-Recorder/VCR combo that doesn't like when I remove a DVD RAM disc and put in a DIVx disc. It will read the navigation menu, but when I try to play a file it freezes and I have to hold down the button 10 seconds to power it off (no other button responds) and then it usually will work. I've already loaded a patch from them.
So I guess I'm asking, why does so much of today's stuff suck or how can I fix the above items?
For the cable modem, make sure you have plenty of space around it for air flow. It is cooled passively, which means that it lets natural air flow do the cooling (no fans). If it's covered up or in a little space, it's probably overheating. When you turn it off, you remove the heat source and it cools, so when you turn it back on, it works...
